Greatest Needs
Responding to urgent community needs

Working in a department that provides emergency care is stressful, let alone one that sees over 115,000 patients each year. The Salem Health Foundation funded a pilot program, “ED Care for Caregivers.” Developed by staff who work in the emergency department, this program helps to improve the resilience of our Emergency Department.
This program provides ED staff onsite access to a counselor trained in crisis support and stress management. This has resulted in a 30% decrease in staff turnover.
Donors who make gifts to areas of greatest need, provide the Foundation with the flexibility to support unique program opportunities like this.
Here are a few more programs funded by the generosity of our donors:
-
Food Farmacy provides three to five days worth of food upon discharge from the hospital to patients in critical need.
Over 800 individuals and their family members have been helped this year! - Health Care Academy is an event for high school students interested in pursuing a career in health care.
- Clothing Closet sends in need patients home from their hospital stay with new clothing.
